My Practice

"My practice has always been greatly inspired by the human condition (what it means to be human) and throughout my studies on the BA Arts Practice course at the University of South Wales, I specialised in concepts concerning humanity, such as consumerism, idolism and celebrity culture. Using ceramics and mixed media, I created several works inspired by African Masks to explore the abstraction of the figure.

My degree show explored the concept of 'the other', and how celebrity culture and the media's idea of 'perfection' encourages the removal of uniqueness. I created a fictional shop of 'perfect' body parts using mannequins, a mixture of fired and unfired clay, and mixed media.

I consider my practice to be multifaceted, and am always experimenting with new techniques and materials - chosing processes that I feel best represent the message I want them to carry. As part of my current studies in Arts Health and Wellbeing at University of South Wales, this has included investigating the potential of masks as a tool to express one's experiences of the pandemic and the potential benefits that this has on mental wellbeing."
